Thanks, all chil’rens

Thanks Lauren for the granchil’rens posts (below).  Yes, that *is* a nice present!  The sisters have delivered, too!  Christine and Sue collaborated earlier in the week on a most excellent alfredo/carbonara/artichoke pasta in honors of FD.  And Rosemary sent me a gift that was truely unexpected, and that in addition to providing FD’s greetings also sent some money to a Worthy Cause (details available from Rosemary):

This we did on purpose….

Since we are on the topic of injuries, I thought I should post one on the other injury we’ve been dealing with lately. While the boys were out of town a few weeks back, Brynn and I decided she needed to get her ears pierced. In case you can’t see from the pic, Brynn now sports a tiny pink crystal daisy in each ear as well as red polished toes.

Oh and by the way, Happy Father’s Day, Daddy.! I didn’t get you a present yet so I thought I could at least finally get around to posting to your blog. ;]

Something for the ladies…

An incident involving a water slide and a metal toy plane at daycare sent us to the ER yesterday to get Grant’s upper lip glued shut. It was our first trip to the emergency room and Grant was very brave.

I told him that women like scars on their men…which made him smile and blush…”So, Mom, now some girls are going to be in love with me?…

The Bird Is Back

Missippi Kite June 2009

A few years ago a young Mississippi Kite appeared in the top of the cypress tree in our back yard.  It likes to perch there in the early morning and late afternoon.  It has been coming back for several years now, always around this time of year (June) and staying for a few weeks before it moves to … wherever it goes next.  We were pleased when we saw that the bird had returned for its annual visit this year.  This photo was taken about 7 pm on June 18, 2009 (when it was still 94 degrees in the shade, but that’s just normal Louisiana summer).

Countdown

I currently have 30 minutes left of possibly my worst class yet. Then two more half days and one full day before summer vacation! I always hated when people said teaching is a great job because you get summers off. I hated that people wanted to become a teacher just for the schedule. It’s true, those people are all stupid. But it is also true that summer vacation is God’s gift to teachers. And without that break I don’t know if I could survive/continue. The countdown has begun…

I less than three all of you. See you soon.

Just another food pic

We do like taking pictures of our food.  This is how we are disposing of some really large (and well priced) filets that we found at Sam’s.  They weren’t trimmed as we like for “just the steak” and they were too dang big anyway.  I think this will work out.  I’m posting while they are cooking!

Good Use of Filets

For the record, we like our “just the steak” filets well trimmed.  We generally get them from a “white tablecloth” wholesaler in town as their quality is consistently good.  We recently restocked the freezer with these, largely via some gift certificates that we received.  Thanks Fred!  Wish you were here to eat.

Thanks, Fred!

Thanks, Fred!

Sarge

img_039611
Sarge, a neighborhood dog that visited overnight while his people were away.  He Houdini’ed out of his yard and went roaming.  Apparently he was able to home in on our barbeque grill, which he began to dismantle.  Being between dogs at the moment, we were still well provisioned with Alpo and rawhide chewies.  Overall a very pleasant visit by a Good Dog.  He has nice people, too.
